Follow Me

I am a highly sensitive person and I often feel more than I can express sometimes.  I pick up emotions from people around me and the environment quite easily.  Many times I feel emotions that I know are not mine and only recently have I learned ways to control them.  I am not perfect and sometimes the emotions are so strong that they spiral out of control and I get into a panic and anxious state.  These are the times that I feel very vulnerable and off balance.

These feelings, at times, can be so heavy and draining.  When I am in this state the emotions are suffocating and I instantly feel overwhelmed – not only by my own feelings, but by those of others around me or even by those who are far away, but with whom I am energetically connected to.

As a kid growing up I was very involved in athletic sports – any sport you name it I played it.  Sports can be very grounding and now I understand why I excelled in this area of my life. As a child I was very quiet and introverted (crazy to think I know!) but I was an observer, I took all in and released nothing.  As I got older these emotions carried with me and I released them through exercise and sports not understanding that I was truly in my element when participating in these activities.  They instantly made me feel balanced, strong and at peace.  They still do.

I have always been one who needs and enjoys her solitude. In fact, I get stir-crazy if I do not get quiet time. Past friends of mine used to make strong comments to me like “oh right Lisa likes to be alone” or “I know you like to be by yourself” as if this is a bad trait to have.  However if they only understood that this is a necessary trait that I need in order to function.  Solitude is where I find peace and where most of my questions are answered.

Grounding for me is an essential skill that I have had to learn.  It allows me to be present in my body and connected with the earth, allowing me to feel more centered and balanced regardless of what is going on around me. Particularly in my line of work I have had to make this a daily ritual for me both in the morning and in the evening.  I begin the day with a grounding meditation, followed by journaling.  I end my day with clearing all energy attached to me by burning sage and inviting the sacred smoke around my body from head to toe and front to back as I say a little prayer. I open all windows to allow the energy to leave.

If there are days when you feel off-balanced or that your energy is all over the place do not try to make sense of it.  Step into nature and surround yourself with Earth.  Take deep breaths and just feel your body relax.  Nourish yourself from the inside-out and rest.

New Year; New YOU.  Heard this before?

Is your list of New Year’s Resolutions as long as your holiday shopping list?

Each year people around the world vow to stick to their New Year’s resolutions.  This typically begins in December as you scribble down your resolutions on a cocktail napkin at your work christmas party.  From losing weight to quitting smoking, to promising yourself to eat less chocolate.  Despite our best efforts, these ‘resolutions’ or ‘goals’ are often abandoned the first month of January.  Our new year quickly becomes a year of dashed hopes and broken promises.  Setting unrealistic, highly aspirational goals is a quick way to guilt and failure. How do we break this pattern? Let this year be the year you do!

The New Year isn’t meant for drastic and unrealistic changes, it is a time for people to reflect on their past year and work towards more positive lifestyle changes.  Setting small attainable changes throughout the year instead of an overwhelming lengthy list of changes on January 1st will help you attain the changes you strive for.  It is not the actual change that matters, but rather the act of recognizing that lifestyle change is important and working towards these changes one step at a time.

Yes 2016 has been undeniably tough with losing music icons from David Bowie to Prince to George Michael and so many more.  With the shock of Donald Trump winning the presidential election and the continued political unrest around the world we know we lack control of what goes on outside us.

Let the focus of 2017 be about YOU.  We cannot control what exists or occurs externally but we can control what occurs internally.  This is YOUR life and why not spend it feeling your best? I am tired of hearing New Year resolutions and seeing people disappointed when they are unable to attain their “goals”.  What about if your resolutions didn’t include the negative focus:  weight-loss, burning more calories, eating less fat, cleanses, high intensity workouts 7 times a week.  What if it included POSITIVE lifestyle changes like starting to eat nourishing and colourful foods that make you feel good, drinking 1 green juice a week, listening to your body and choosing an exercise that your body needs that particular day, spending 5 minutes a day inhaling and exhaling, writing your emotions in a journal so that instead of avoiding them you’re surrendering to them.

Instead of choosing to spend 7 days Detoxing and only drinking juice with barely any food intake, what about detoxing your negative thoughts, those negative people in your life that do not serve you any good, the junk food in your pantry that you reach for when you’re feeling down/angry/sad.  Detoxing all of your past learned behaviours to start FRESH; NEW and OPEN MINDED with living a lifestyle of balance because this will truly bring you happiness.

Life is too short to do anything you do not enjoy – when you go against what feels good, it feels wrong and there will be resistance and an undeniable force keeping you from doing it!

Stop resisting that force and come try something NEW.  As you many of you who follow me know, I opened up a Holistic Wellness centre over a year ago.  We at PurEnergy focus on YOU – mind, body and soul.  We offer a wide range of Holistic Wellness services from Fitness Classes to Massage Therapy to Nutrition Counselling to Reiki to Meditation and so much more!  No matter the day or time, or however you feel that day, there will be something for you to FEEL GOOD.  Whether that is an ‘Energy-Out’ class, an “Energy-In’ class or a Wellness service let us be part of your POSITIVE lifestyle change for 2017.  Please email us to book in a FREE lifestyle consultation

Today I decided to get outside and ‘earth’ with Savannah. I have been feeling very displaced lately and feeling like I need to get grounded and centred.  I know when I am not fully grounded because I feel spacey and have difficulty focusing.  I sometimes misplace things (keys/phone, etc.) and my concentration is out the window! On these days when I feel all over the place – my thoughts, my actions, my emotions, carving the time out to sort through all of this is so important to me. I truly feel most connected when I am surrounded by nature, trees, birds, sun and now that I have discovered Earthing I cannot get enough of it! Seriously! I get home, take off my socks and with Savannah I walk around barefoot in the grass – it is amazing!  I believe that being grounded and present is all about awareness and about being conscious of how you feel as you move through life.  No one is perfect (that would be so boring) so when there are times you feel this way – try Earthing!

More and more research shows that by connecting to the earth’s electrical energy, you can improve your overall health. Pretty cool right!?

  • Reduces inflammation
  • Reduces chronic pain
  • Reduces muscle tension and headaches
  • Reduces stress
  • Increases sleep and energy
  • Promotes calmness

There is a physical connection between the electrical frequencies of the human body and that of the Earth’s. Making sure you’re barefoot when your feet touch the grass is key, as bare skin is conductive – it will feel silly the first time you do it but this will become part of your lifestyle because of how great it makes you feel! The earth has such incredible healing power.  Once you connect with nature in this way your scattered thoughts, displaced emotions and straight up craziness (LOL) will diminish and disappear – the world will then become a lot clearer.

I am definitely no parent guru, but I feel it is important to discover things with Savannah. In a world filled with stress, expectations, electronics, very little outdoor play or exposure, I hope to encourage Savannah to be able to self-regulate her emotions and feelings.  By giving her the opportunity to practice Earthing with me (through walking barefoot in the grass, making tree forts, helping me in our vegetable garden) and exposing her to the earth’s healing energy, I hope to  heighten her awareness naturally.
